TERM 3 WEEK 6

TUAKANA TEINA THURSDAY
On a Thursday after morning tea Tafata from Room 8 comes to read us a story. We listen carefully to her story and she asks us questions about it. Then write about it in our own words and sometimes we make ourselves characters in our own narrative.



 
Learner Lead Conferences:
All the learners in Room 5 are looking forward to sharing their learning with their Whanau next Wednesday and Thursday. They have been practising their introductions and are excited about sharing their new goals with you. Please make sure you come at the right time on the right day and if you can’t make it please call the office on 836-4919. I look forward to seeing you all there.

 Lost of giggling was going on when we were role playing introducing our parents!

Cornerstone Awards:
The recipient of the Cornerstone Award for Turangawaewae this week was Phoebe MacDonald.

The recipient of the Cornerstone Award for Whanaungatanga this week was Lusion Pologa.




And Phoebe MacDonald was the well deserved recipient of The Principals Award.

FUNKY FEET FRIDAY
Pomaria school belongs to Travel Wise, which encourages learners to walk to school to keep healthy and to help the environment. We have received a gold medal for our learners commitment to this and this week to celebrate ‘Walking to School’ we had Funky Feet Friday. We decorated out shoes and finalists received prizes for their creative efforts. Here are some of our classes creations.



A BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO LUSION POLOGA WHO WAS CHOSEN TO REPRESENT MANAAKITANGA WITH HIS AWESOME SPIDERMAN BOOTS.


TUAKANA TEINA.

Every Wednesday afternoon our buddies from Room 21 and Mrs O’Malley come to visit our we visit them. They listen to us read, help us practise our spelling, help us learn the letters of the alphabet and their sounds and help us learn the words in our homework books. We also share our stories with them and they read their to us. We love spending time with our buddies and enjoy teaching them our Jolly Phonic songs. THANK YOU TO OUR BIG BUDDIES IN ROOM 21 FOR HELPING US LEARN!!!!!

National Maths Week
This week was National Maths Week and we started each morning with a Problem Solving activity. In Room 5 it helps us to use different materials or draw when we solve problems. Take a look at us in action.

Maori Language Week continued.
We were so fortunate this week to continue our Maori Language focus. Our fabulous Whanau unit organised a rotation of activities for our whole school to participate in. We had an awesome time learning Maori games; making Kowhai whai (flowers); Making artwok with sponges shaped like koru patterns; and making kites. We finished a fanatstic block of learning by eating yummy Maori bread. Check out our photos.

Special Visitor – Ron Sperber ‘Waste Minimisation’

We had a special visitor this week from Auckland City Council. He came to teach us about ‘Reduce, Re-use, Recycle’. We learnt a lot about how much rubbish we produce and how important it is to recycle as much of our waste as possible. 

One months of Auckland's rubbish dumped on Eden Park.

Special Visitor – Jeremy: Taonga Puoro

We had a special visitor this week who brought with him his personal collection of Maori Instruments (Treasures). He was very talented and showed us how to play these special treasures.

The recipient of the Cornerstone Award for Whanaungatanga this week was Edward Mafi.


 And Edward Mafi was the well deserved recipient of The Principals Award.

100 days at school party!!!!!


On Friday we celebrated 100 days of learning at school. We played Maths games, pin the tail on the donkey and musical chairs. A great time was had by all, including the parents who came along – check out our photos!!

MATT AND ANDY - RECYCLING SHOW

The highlight of our week was watching the free show from Auckland City Council that taught us the importance of recycling our food and not wasting it. The show was exciting and hilarious! but we learnt a lot.
